This handmade book was created in conjunction with the band Cake. The book illustrates the lyrics to their song "Bound Away," from their album "Showroom of Compassion," which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Each book comes with a CD of the single, so you can follow along while you read the lyrics. Every book in the edition is signed by all the members of the band.
The book was a real hands-on production: hand-carved linoleum blocks were hand-printed on hand-made paper and hand-bound into an edition of 1,000 books.
I designed all illustrations for the book and the CD. The immense amount of production work, including the carving, papermaking, printing, binding, and finishing, was done by a legion of volunteers. The band members helped in many parts of the production work.
